My Mom's favorite caliber is the 30-06 hands down. One issue with the 30-06 barrel is if you put a scope on you lose your irons, the scope rail runs into the rear sights so they have to come off to use a scope. My favorite caliber would have to be my 30-06. My friends and I like the 243 Winchester best for deer hunting.
My best friends' favorite is definitely 30-06 (150 grain). The best hunting trip was when the Gobbler jumped on the back of that Hen decoy just south of Castile.
My mom got her 30-06 online at Cabelas. I like the Burris 2.75 Scope better on my Savage 11G, and I'd be willing to bet that it's a bit more robust than the Leupold.
